Vlingo - The Closest Thing To Siri For iphone 3GS & 4
Since the iphone 4s came out iv been dying to get it! Unfortunately i have almost the 24months left that i signed up for on my current contract. Disappointment does not even come close!
It's not just that 8mp iv been dying to get my hands on and play with, but also SIRI, thats being talked about everywhere by everybody. Unfortunately apple have made it exclusive to the iphone 4s, although i have seen iphone 3GS and 4 comfortably running siri on jailbroken phones.
Having said that, not all of us want to jailbreak our iphones, or have the time or energy to search root directories, placing files here there and everywhere without really having a clue, until the only thing you achieve is frying your beloved iphone and then blaming your partner for letting you.
Until today i hadn't found an alternative that came close to siri; then in that glorious moment i found it, how i squealed with excitement. It goes by the name of VLINGO, and does come pretty close.
With vlingo you can still search maps, google, send emails and texts, voice dial and even update your facebook and twitter status. The only thing you cant do is reminders. There are still certain limitations; you have to use certain phrases like:
'text' Fred 'message' please call me
'email' Fred 'subject' farts 'message' please come and save me from this awful smell.
The voice recognition isn't always accurate the first time, the more you try, the more it gets used to your voice.
Me being me, downloaded this app, as soon as it had installed i found myself saying 'search porn' [just to see if it would of course] and sure enough, in seconds google was open and looking for my search query so it has very little restriction on profanity some of you will be pleased to know.
Text messages can also be a giggle if they are a few sentences long, certain words get replaced if you don't speak clearly enough; you cant even be mad when the replacements will make you giggle against your will.
One other benefit is that it's completely free; no subscription, and no hidden charges. You really cant go wrong. You can find it in the app store, waiting for you.
Its not Siri but it's pretty damn good, hit download and tell me what you think.
